To Our Bulldawg Nation,

As we begin this election season, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued engagement with Copperas Cove ISD and to invite you to take part in our continued learning opportunities for our community.

The district continues to welcome our community to tour our facilities. These tours can be scheduled by emailing our communications department at ccisdcommunications@ccisd.com. Over the past few months, we’ve truly appreciated the opportunity to connect with numerous community clubs, groups, and organizations. These visits have allowed us to have open, honest conversations about the future of our district.

In addition to our "Walk and Talk" town hall-style events, I’m excited to announce a new opportunity for engagement: Superintendent Round Tables. These informal gatherings will be held over the next week and are designed to give you a chance to ask questions and engage in meaningful dialogue. If you’re interested in participating, please email me directly at hawkinsb@ccisd.com.

I am proud of what I believe is the most transparent and content-driven effort in the state to educate our community on the facts surrounding the 2025 bond proposal. Our approach has been to provide facts about the district today and explain the changes the bond would allow the district to make.

As part of this commitment to transparency, we are regularly sharing Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). One question we’ve heard often is:

“How can the district claim schools are overcrowded while also reporting declining enrollment?”

That’s a fair question—and both statements are factually correct, as supported by state data. According to the Texas Education Agency, over the past five years, CCISD has experienced an 8.4% decline in overall enrollment. However, that decline is primarily in the elementary grades.

At the high school level, enrollment has remained relatively steady. If current trends continue, our high school will still be operating over its functional capacity in many areas in the next ten years.

For example, today at CCHS:

  • 32 teachers are teaching from carts or out of backpacks in shared or repurposed spaces, changing spaces each class period

  • The cafeteria cannot accommodate the full student body, even with three lunch periods

  • Hallway capacity does not match with the school’s enrollment, creating safety concerns because of overcrowded passing periods

So, while enrollment has declined, we are still facing overcrowded conditions, especially at the secondary level. Bond 2025 is about addressing those issues and ensuring we are providing a safe, effective learning environment for all students.

I welcome you to join me on a tour of the high school and walk with me during passing periods, visit the cafeteria, or examine the repurposed spaces. It would be my pleasure to visit with you and answer your questions.

Thank you for the opportunity to meet with you, answer questions, and share clear information about our schools. I am grateful for every conversation and for the continued engagement from our community. As you make your plan to vote, during Early Voting or on Election Day, please continue reaching out if you need additional facts or clarification.

God Bless and Go Dawgs!

Sincerely,

Dr. Brent Hawkins
