Let your Flags Fly! CCJHS's flagpole had issues this morning that had Mr. Taylor trying to capture the flags when the anchoring cord broke loose. Thanks to his quick thinking, the flags are now safe and flying high. Meanwhile, Mr. Max, our CIS mentor, taught the students how to correctly fold the flags for storage #Honorthe flag#USA!.

"Our elementary and secondary school counselors recently spent dedicated time collaborating with counselors from across the state to strengthen their expertise and better support CCISD students.
During this professional learning experience, they expanded their skills in sand tray therapy, explored new career‑readiness strategies, learned about valuable community resources, and discovered ways to help students earn more grants and financial assistance as they prepare for graduation.
We are also proud to celebrate our counselors who earned the prestigious CREST Award, advocated for students and the counseling profession at the state level, and even presented sessions to teach and inspire other counselors at the conference.
This time of connection, professional growth, and collaboration left our counselors energized, encouraged, and ready to bring new ideas back to campus."
Happy #SchoolCounselorWeek2026!

Our leadership team has continued to evaluate weather and road conditions across our community, as well as the forecast, and we’ve remained in constant communication with all appropriate agencies. With today’s warm-up, conditions have improved enough that Copperas Cove ISD will reopen and return to class on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at its normal start time.

CCISD buses will run at their normal time, and breakfast will be served at its normal time at every campus. Parents are encouraged to ensure their student is dressed warmly for the day.

Once students and staff return tomorrow, the district will begin a review of whether any changes to the academic calendar are required alongside district staff and the Board of Trustees. If so, those will communicated with families as soon as possible.

Due to continued hazardous conditions on roadways, an an abundance of precipitation on the roadways projected to refreeze across Copperas Cove, Copperas Cove ISD schools and offices will remain closed out of an abundance of caution on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Activities scheduled for Wednesday will be rescheduled for a later date.

CCISD leadership has continued to evaluate road conditions across our community, as well as the forecast which includes more freezing temperatures, and while major roadways have improved, too many neighborhood, rural and hill-side streets remain covered in ice. Many school parking lots and entryways remain covered in ice, as well. We've included several photos in this post taken earlier this afternoon.

Given the state of the roads and school parking lots, it is not safe to ask our bus drivers to report in the early morning hours to run routes in these conditions, nor to ask the several-hundred student and parent drivers to commute to school in the morning.

Copperas Cove ISD expects to be able to reopen on Thursday, January 28, 2026, but will continue to evaluate and communicate with the appropriate agencies to ensure it is safe to do so. Once CCISD is able to safely return to school, we will work alongside district staff and the Board of Trustees to evaluate if a change needs to be made to the academic calendar. If so, those will be communicated with families as soon as possible.

“I know this extended closure may create challenges for families,” said Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins. “Thank you for your patience, support, and understanding as we put the safety of everybody in our school community first. We look forward to a safe return to school as soon as possible.”

Future Scientists at Work!! Students in Mrs McGinnis' 8th Grade Science class investigated how Earth’s rotation affects wind movement by using balloons as a model of Earth. As the balloon was spun, students attempted to draw a straight line from the North or South Pole to the equator. They observed that the line appeared to curve, demonstrating how Earth’s rotation causes the Coriolis effect, which influences the direction of moving air and wind patterns.
Way to go, Pups!!! We are proud of you!!!
